Description &Applications Chlorantraniliprole is a carboxamide resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxylic acid group of 3-bromo-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid with the primary amino group of 2-amino-5-chloro-N,3-dimethylbenzamide. The first of the anthranilic diamide insecticides, it is a ryanodine receptor activator and is used to protect a wide variety of crops, including corn, cotton, grapes, rice and potatoes. It has a role as a ryanodine receptor agonist. It is an organobromine compound, a member of pyridines, a member of pyrazoles, a pyrazole insecticide, a member of monochlorobenzenes and a secondary carboxamide.

Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide, a potent insecticide with promising attributes.

Understanding Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide:

Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide is a chemical compound derived from Chlorantraniliprole, which is a member of the anthranilic diamide class of insecticides. This class of insecticides is renowned for its unique mode of action that targets the insect’s ryanodine receptors, leading to uncontrolled muscle contractions and paralysis. This makes it particularly effective against a wide range of destructive insect pests.

Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide is a metabolite of Chlorantraniliprole that is formed when the parent compound interacts with environmental factors like sunlight and soil microorganisms. This transformation enhances the compound’s efficacy, leading to a potentially broader spectrum of insecticidal activity.

Key Advantages:

  1. Selective Action: Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide demonstrates a high degree of selectivity towards insects while posing minimal risk to non-target organisms. This makes it an attractive choice for integrated pest management strategies, which emphasize the preservation of beneficial insects and ecosystems.
  2. Residual Activity: The compound’s enhanced stability allows for extended residual activity. This characteristic is beneficial for reducing the frequency of application, ultimately leading to lower chemical usage and reduced environmental impact.
  3. Resistance Management: With the rise of insecticide resistance among pest populations, Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide offers a novel mode of action. By targeting a distinct receptor site, it can serve as a valuable tool in managing insects that have developed resistance to other classes of insecticides.
  4. Low Toxicity to Mammals: Another noteworthy feature is its relatively low toxicity to mammals. This characteristic contributes to the compound’s favorable environmental and safety profile.

Applications:

Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide finds application in various agricultural settings, including field crops, horticulture, and ornamental plants. It effectively controls a wide array of economically significant pests such as lepidopteran larvae (caterpillars), beetles, and certain sucking insects.

Environmental Considerations:

While Chlorantraniliprole N-Oxide presents several advantages, it’s essential to approach its use with environmental responsibility. Monitoring and assessing its impact on non-target organisms, soil health, and aquatic ecosystems are vital steps in ensuring its sustainability.
