General description

It belongs to avermectin family. This family have a macrocycle as backbone with a spiroketal unit, a hexahydrobenzofuran unit and disaccharide substitute in general. It is a natural fermenting product which can be produced by Streptomyces avermitilis.

Application

it has been used as standard in liquid chromatography electrospray tandem mass spectrometry LCESI-MS/MS method for determination of its residues in orange samples.

Uses:

It is also used as a veterinary antihelmintic. Resistance to abamectin-based antihelmintics, although a growing problem, is not as common as to other classes of veterinary antihelmintics. The benzoate salt emamectin benzoate is also used as an insecticide. Avermectins have been used to treat various ailments caused by parasites in both humans and animals. Avermectins including abamectin were studied for use as anti alcohol therapies. Recently, ivermectin is being studied for use as an anti inflammatory agent.
